The History of Baccarat

In American popular culture or pop culture, baccarat has been a part of popular films and even associated with famous artists. A good example is the remarkable James Bond 007 movie and the birth of 'Casino Royale'. In the movie James bond 007, Baccarat Chemin de Fer is the game in focus and on target. The characters of the film made use of the game baccarat to revolve the story. Moreover, baccarat was also featured in some rated films as Dr. No and Golden Eye and also the action-comedy film Rush Hour 3.

Baccarat is a type of card game played in casinos. It is believed to be introduced from Italy to France when Charles VIII ruled the France from 1483 to 1498. Poker is said to be similar to Faro and Basset. Some variants of baccarat are: "Baccarat Chemin de Fer" (which is used in the film James Bond 007) which means railway; "Baccarat Banque" ; and the North American baccarat known as "Punto Banco". The latter is mainly of chance or a game of luck but Baccarat Chemin de Fer and Baccarat Banque are variants where players can choose from certain options. The players then will wait for the result which has only three possibilities or probabilities. These are the 'Player', the 'Banker' and the 'Tie'.

In some casinos, some variants of baccarat are played in some special rooms different from the gaming area or to a separate floor for security and privacy reasons. This is mainly because of the amount of money at stake. A player may take home a million dollar or lose millions at the end of the game night. In 2007, there has been a report on the losses of the Las Vegas Sands Corp casino of as high as $48.5 million and these rooms are from baccarat and blackjack. This is remarkably one of the unforgettable baccarat events with the highest net loss.

Baccarat was very popular then and a lot of variations were made. Other variations are mini-baccarat which is played on smaller tables and the Makccarat which is a modified one. Similar to blackjack, baccarat players count their scores and adding all card numbers. The difference here is that the tens digit of the numbers added are ignored, for example, a hand of 5 + 6 = 1 dropping the tens digit because it is higher than 10. It follows that 6 and 4 when added gives a total of (0) zero. The highest score a player can get is (9) nine. Baccarat is a fun and risky game because of the high amount at stake but there are also other versions and variants to choose from for the players who just want to play and have fun.
